Field Test Etiquette
Just a few key "need to know" about hunt tests. The reason I know is because at the first hunt test I did not know all the proper etiquette or the rules, consequently I learned the hard way with a couple warnings by hunt test officials. I thought I would pass on so everyone can plan accordingly.
- Handlers, bird boys, gunners, judges and others shall be required to wear camouflaged or appropriate clothing.
- Handlers should bring their own duck call and wader boots.
- Handlers should be prepared for any type of weather, particularly in the fall and spring.
- Spectators should sit far enough away and speak in whispers so as to not disturb the judges and the dog at the line.
- Spectators should take insect repellent, lawn chairs, sunscreen, and umbrella for sun protection
- Dogs at all times must be kept in crate, kennel, or tied at vehicle. Any dog interfering with the working dog will be eliminated from the test.
- Training aids are not allowed, nor can the handler intimidate their dog while it is on the test grounds.
- No dogs allowed in or near spectator areas.
- Dogs can only air and loosen up in designated areas.
- No dogs in heat allowed in a test or at the test site.
